Shortly after being pardoned by Donald Trump, Democratic Rep. Henry Cuellar announced he would be running as a Democrat in 2026.
Cuellar filed to run for reelection shortly after Trump announced the pardon last week. The Hill reached out to Cuellar’s office for comment.
Speaking to Maria Bartiromo on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” Cuellar defended his decision to run as a Democrat in 2026.
“I follow the words of President [Lyndon B. Johnson], who said many years ago, ‘I’m an American, I’m a Texan, and I’m a Democrat, in that order,’” Cuellar said Sunday. “And I think anybody that puts party before their country
