Musk tries to smooth over tensions with Congress amid push to put DOGE cuts into law


Billionaire tech icon Elon Musk sought to smooth over rough edges with GOP lawmakers Wednesday as he met with congressional Republicans about his role in slashing federal workers and government spending at the helm of the Department of Government Efficiency.

During a private lunch, Republican senators pressed the Trump confidant to send Congress the cuts made by DOGE in the form of a recissions package so they can be codified into law, according to those in attendance.

Some Republicans have expressed concern over the administration’s attempts to unilaterally dismantle agencies, programs, and contracts by revoking funds Congress already appropriated.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a fiscal hawk who pressed Musk for a recissions package, said such a move was the only way to render any spending cuts
