Missing Los Angeles firefighter may have been shot, kidnapped in Mexico


A Los Angeles firefighter who vanished in Mexico may have been gunned down in a botched abduction — and a couple has been arrested in the case, authorities said.

Francisco Aguilar, 48, is now believed to have been lured on a date before he vanished Aug. 20 while visiting his condominium near Rosarito, Mexico, according to Baja California state prosecutor Hiram Sánchez.

Two Mexican residents, a 32-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man identified only as Fanny “N” and Santos “N,” were arrested last week in his disappearance.

Sanchez said his office believes the woman arranged a date with Aguilar in Rosarito but when he showed up, her male accomplice jumped him in a kidnapping attempt.

“He somehow managed to get rid of his captors, tried to run, and as he ran, they shoot and injure him and put him in the van,” Sanchez said.
