After a White House meeting with President Trump, top GOP lawmakers in Michigan asserted that the winner of the election will only be determined by who received the most votes.
Trump met with Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, and other state legislators on Friday in a gathering that was highly scrutinized amid the backdrop of the Trump campaign’s legal challenges in the state. After the meeting, the lawmakers indicated that they do not seek to play a role in handing Trump electors, despite speculation among some in the Left.
“The candidates who win the most votes win elections and Michigan’s electoral votes,” Chatfield and Shirkey said in a joint statement following the 4 p.m. meeting. “We have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors,
