First Lady Melania Trump released a statement early on Monday morning in response to last week’s violent riot in Washington, D.C., imploring cooler heads to prevail and for people to stop the violence.
Melania Trump said that her heart went out to the five people who died in the riot, which included police officer Brian Sicknick, and the police officer who committed suicide a few days after the riot, Howard Liebengood.
“I am disappointed and disheartened with what happened last week,” Melania Trump said. “I find it shameful that surrounding these tragic events there has been salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me – from people who are looking to be relevant and have an agenda. This time is solely about healing our country and its citizens. It should not be used for personal gain.”
