Republican leaders will strip Rep. Matt Gaetz of his seats on the House Armed Services and Judiciary Committees if there is truth to allegations that he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and paid for her to travel with him.
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, told Fox News on Wednesday that he has not yet spoken to Gaetz, a Florida Republican, or the Department of Justice, which is allegedly investigating the matter.
“Those are serious implications,” McCarthy said. “If it comes out to be true, then yes, we would remove him if that was the case. But right now, Matt Gaetz said it is not true, and we don’t have any information. Let’s get all the information.”
