Maurene Comey sends warning to colleagues about Trump administration after being fired from DOJ

Former federal prosecutor Maurene Comey sent an email Thursday to her former colleagues one day after being fired from the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office, telling them that “fear is the tool of a tyrant.”

“If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain,” she wrote. “Do not let that happen. Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”

Comey, who worked as an assistant U.S. attorney, was fired abruptly from her role Wednesday. She is the daughter of former FBI Director James Comey, who is frequently the subject of President Donald Trump’s ire.
