Mamdani holds on to double digit lead going into election week: Poll


A poll released Thursday handed New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani a wide lead over his closest rival, suggesting the Big Apple is inching ever closer to electing its first-ever socialist mayor next week.

Mamdani holds a 16-point lead over former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is running as an independent, according to the Marist survey

The poll conducted from Oct. 24 to 28 showed 48% of voters back the socialist candidate, 32% support Cuomo, and 16% are set to cast ballots for Curtis Sliwa, a Republican. Three percent remain undecided.

If Sliwa were to drop out of the contest, as he has been urged to do, Mamdani would receive the backing of 51% of likely voters compared with 44% for Cuomo, the Marist poll wrote.
