Vice President Kamala Harris declared her trip to Guatemala and Mexico a “success” while speaking to reporters in Mexico City Tuesday night.
Her first foreign foray since the inauguration, Harris opened by reiterating her goal for the trip: addressing the root causes of northern migration as being critical to solving the “problem” at the United States’s southern border. President Joe Biden sent his understudy to Latin America for talks as the summer is expected to see a swell of migrants at the southern border.
“I want to be very clear that the problem at the border in large part, if not entirely, stems from the problems in these countries,” she stated.
