Luna and Johnson strike deal to end proxy voting feud


House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) have reached a deal to end her effort to ensure new parents can vote by proxy. 

Last week, Luna and Rep. Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) succeeded in their efforts to sink a measure designed to disable new parents from voting remotely. Luna and Petterson designed a bill to allow for proxy voting, but Johnson had been working hard to kill the legislation he labeled “unconstitutional.”

However, Johnson and Luna have struck an agreement to end the push for proxy voting, and, in exchange, formalize “vote pairing,” the Washington Examiner confirmed

The speaker is also planning to put a nursing room near the House floor and make day care more accessible for representatives.
