A powerful explosion left multiple casualties inside a Shiite mosque in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz during Friday prayers, according to a senior Taliban official and witnesses.
The cause of the blast at the Gozar-e-Sayed Abad Mosque was not immediately clear.
Witness Ali Reza, who was praying at the mosque, reported seeing many casualties after the explosion.
Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said a “large number” of worshipers were killed and wounded.
He said Taliban special forces responded to the scene and were investigating the incident.
