Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is rumored to be a possible choice for President-elect Joe Biden’s attorney general, has supported efforts to try and break up Google.
Klobuchar, a Democrat and former prosecutor in Minneapolis, praised the Justice Department for considering “structural remedies” in its recently filed antitrust lawsuit against the tech giant during a virtual keynote speech for the American Bar Association’s Fall Forum, according to CNBC.
“In a serious monopolization action like this one, it’s important that a breakup remedy be on the table,” Klobuchar said.
Democrats and Republicans have varying concerns about the influence of Big Tech as they seek more regulation on Silicon Valley. Democrats have prioritized calling for Congress to rein in and break up tech giants such as Google, while Republicans are focused largely on claims of social media censorship and fact-checking, which they say have overwhelmingly targeted conservative content.
