Judge pauses Trump efforts to end Venezuelan deportation protections

A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked the Trump administration from ending deportation protections for more than 600,000 Venezuelans just days before many were set to lose their legal status and work permits.

U.S. District Judge Edward Chen, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, granted a preliminary injunction against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s move to revoke temporary protected status, or TPS, for roughly 350,000 Venezuelans by April 7 and accelerate the expiration for another 250,000. The Biden-era protections will remain in place for now as a legal challenge proceeds.
