The House will vote Wednesday to impeach President Trump, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters in the Capitol on Monday.
House Democrats Monday launched an effort to have President Trump removed from office, attempting to pass legislation by unanimous consent calling for Vice President Mike Pence to deem him unfit for office following the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by some of his followers.
The measure, which would have Pence use the Constitution’s 25th Amendment to replace Trump, was easily blocked by Republicans in a pro forma session. Lawmakers will now reconvene to hold a roll-call vote in order to pass it, along with at least one article of impeachment.
