House Democrats move quickly on legislation expanding Medicare benefits and enacting paid family leave


House Democrats will move quickly this week to advance legislation expanding federal health benefits for seniors and enacting paid family leave as part of a massive partisan $3.5 trillion package to enact the bulk of President Joe Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.

“Later this week, the Ways and Means Committee will put an end to the idea that only some workers are worthy of ‘perks’ like paid leave, child care, and assistance in saving for retirement, and finally commit to investments that make these supports fixtures of the American workplace,” Rep. Richard Neal, a Massachusetts Democrat who is the chairman of the committee, said Tuesday.
