The cease-fire deal reached Wednesday between Israel and Hamas is the first step in a process that could see the release of all hostages from the Gaza Strip and the withdrawal of the Israeli military.
For now, it temporarily ends the fighting in the Palestinian territory for the first time since November 2023.
The deal still has to be approved by the Israeli cabinet and the legislature — something that is expected to happen Thursday.
