Hegseth fires back after China flexes war readiness over tariff hike: ‘We’re prepared’


Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth responded Wednesday to China’s claims that it is ready for any “type of war” following President Donald Trump’s 10% tariff increase.

On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian responded to Trump’s move, claiming the “fentanyl issue is a flimsy excuse to raise U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports.”

‘My job as the secretary of defense is to make sure we’re ready.’

Lin blamed the fentanyl crisis on the U.S., outright rejecting claims that China bears any responsibility. Instead, he insisted that China has helped the U.S. address the issue.
