SAN LEANDRO, CALIFORNIA — Vice President Kamala Harris railed against the effort to oust California Gov. Gavin Newsom from office, characterizing his seat as a bulwark against incursions on the Biden administration’s sweeping Democratic agenda.
“Let us send the message to the world, that these are the things we stand for, these are the things we fight for and we will not give up, because we know that so much is at stake,” Harris said in remarks at the IBEW-NECA Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in San Leandro, California. “So many are counting on us and there was so much good that we can do.”
Newsom’s recall would prove a significant blow for Democrats ahead of the 2022 elections, as Harris’s party tries to defend a razor-thin majority in the House and only controls the Senate by virtue of the vice president’s tiebreaking vote.
