The suspect who fired at the White House compound on Saturday evening was shot and killed by Secret Service agents, officials confirmed.
The agency announced that a bystander had also been shot, though it did not provide their condition, but claimed that no officers sustained injuries, according to a Saturday evening social media post from the United States Secret Service (USSS) Office of Communications.
“The President was in the White House during the incident, however no protectees or operations were impacted,” said Anthony Guglielmi, USSS chief of communications, in the post, emphasizing the investigation is ongoing.

Shortly after 6 p.m., an individual pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing in the area of 17th street and Pennsylvania Avenue, the USSS explained, which is near the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of the White House complex.
Secret Service fired at him, and he was transported to a hospital in the area, where he was pronounced dead, Secret Service said.
Media outlets, citing law enforcement officials, reported the person as Nasire Best, 21 years old, who had previous run-ins with the Secret Service.
In July, 2025, Best had entered a restricted area at the White House compound and claimed he was Jesus Christ and wanted to get arrested, according to a court filing provided by Fox News.
The filing stated that Best was known to the Secret Service for walking around the White House complex and asking how to gain access at different entry posts.
President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to post about the incident and offer his gratitude to law enforcement.
“Thank you to our great Secret Service and Law Enforcement for the swift and professional action taken this evening against a gunman near the White House, who had a violent history and possible obsession with our Country’s most cherished structure,” he said.
“The gunman is dead after an exchange of gunfire with Secret Service Agents near the White House gate,” Trump continued.

Reporters present at the compound immediately rushed for cover when the shots rang out, including One America News White House Correspondent Alexandra Ingersoll.
Ingersoll was reporting live on the Iran conflict when the shorts were heard. She is seen ducking and taking cover as she responded to the situation.
“Oh my gosh, we just heard gunshots,” Ingersoll can be heard saying in the broadcast.
This shooting took place almost exactly a month after the attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD), where President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and other officials were escorted out of the Washington Hilton ballroom when a gunman stormed a security checkpoint.
In his late-night post, Trump referenced the WHCD attack, saying it “goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get, what will be, the most safe and secure space of its kind ever built in Washington D.C.”
“The National Security of our Country demands it!” Trump said.
