Gun discharges at North Carolina turkey shoot, sends four to hospital


A community turkey shooting competition in North Carolina left four wounded — including two children — after a shotgun accidentally went off on Saturday night, officials said.

A shotgun fired after it was dropped just after 8:20 p.m. at a community turkey shoot in Moore County, injuring three people from one family — a mother, father and their very young son, Moore County Sheriff Richard Maness told CBS 17.

They were taken to First Health Moore Regional Hospital for treatment while a 12-year-old girl who was shot in the legs was airlifted to Chapel Hill for treatment, Maness said.

A fifth person was burned when she fell into a fire pit, the station reported. All of the injuries are non-life-threatening.
