Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) suggested on Saturday that the United States would intervene to protect protesters in Iran as the death toll from demonstrations in the country has only increased.
Protests have engulfed Iran for nearly two weeks, with demonstrators taking to the streets of at least 100 cities, including Tehran. What began as unrest over a struggling economy has turned into calls for the toppling of the regime itself, with recent reports indicating that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is planning to flee the country.
While the regime continues to crack down on the protests in response, leading to at least 65 deaths and 2,300 arrests, U.S. officials and lawmakers have been hinting over the weekend at U.S. military action in response to the crackdown.
