GOP reps launch resolution in support of DHS, ICE, CBP

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise and freshman Rep. Lisa McClain are leading the effort on a resolution aimed at voicing support for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in an attempt to oppose progressives’ recent push to reduce funding for the agencies

The resolution comes as Republicans continue to push for the Biden Administration to reinstate Trump administration border policy, arguing that the reversal is responsible for the record-smashing surge in illegal immigrants entering the country. 

Sixty-two lawmakers signed on to the measure, which was introduced on Tuesday.

The resolution states that “the Department of Homeland Security and all its law enforcement agencies conduct critical operations to keep the United States safe and secure,” highlights the CBP’s role in preventing “criminals from entering our country illegally” and filter “contraband, such as illegal drugs and firearms,” noting that ICE “seizes 4,000 pounds of narcotics, $4.93 million in illicit
