Republican Reps. Doug Lamborn of Colorado and Jeff Duncan of South Carolina sent a letter to Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona on Tuesday expressing their “deep concern” regarding the “proposed new grant priority for the American History and Civics Education program” that promotes Critical Race Theory.
“Civics and history are two subjects that are vitally important to our children’s intellectual growth and education,” the letter read in part. “Through civic education, students learn the foundational principles of our democracy, about our coequal branches of government, and our unalienable rights under the Constitution. A strong civic education should empower students to be well-informed and active citizens.
The letter went on to warn against the influence of the 1619 Project and Ibram X.
