Google says it will change Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’ in Maps app

Google announced it would modify Google Maps to show the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” following new directives from the Trump administration based on updated government sources. Similarly, Google plans to revert to using “Mount McKinley” instead of Denali for the Alaskan peak.

These changes reportedly stem from executive actions signed by President Trump, requiring these name modifications on federal maps and communications.

Google explained via X (formerly Twitter) that they follow a policy of implementing name changes once they’re reflected in official government documentation. The company noted that Mexican users would still see “Gulf of Mexico,” while users in other countries would see both names displayed.
