Good Samaritan leaps into Maryland bay to save infant

A quick-thinking bystander jumped off a Maryland bridge to rescue an infant who fell from a car into the waters near Ocean City, authorities said.

The good Samaritan was at the scene of a multi-car crash on the Route 90 bridge on Sunday afternoon when he saw the child thrown from one of the vehicles and into Assawoman Bay, the Ocean City Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

The infant, who fell from a car hanging over the guardrail after the wreck, was plucked from the bay by the unknown hero and pulled to safety.

“Firefighters secured the vehicle with rescue tools, while paramedics treated multiple priority patients,” the department said. “Seven patients were transported by ground to various hospitals while the pediatric patient was flown to Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital.”

Authorities have not identified the crash victims or the good Samaritan.
