Georgia teen dies after COVID-19 complicates car accident recovery


A Georgia teen died after COVID-19 complicated his recovery from a car accident.

The teen, only identified as a 17-year-old black male from Dodge County, in the central area of the state, was left with multiple fractures after a recent car accident, the county coroner told WXIA-TV.

But he had also tested positive for the coronavirus — which left him with weakness in the lungs — preventing his recovery from the accident.

The details of the crash were not immediately clear.

Georgia reported 1,331 new coronavirus cases, 19 new deaths and 156 new hospitalizations on Wednesday, according to data on the state health department’s website.

Since the start of the pandemic, the teen’s death marks the fifth in the 10 to 17 age group statewide.
