The national average price for a gallon of regular gas continued to increase on Tuesday, rising to $3.068. This is more expensive than a month ago, when a gallon cost $3.02 and approximately one cent cheaper than a year ago, when regular gas was $3.079 per gallon.
Gas prices have been trending upward since after Christmas, when the national average cost for a gallon of regular gas fell to $3.01 in December. Yet, despite the increases, gas prices have fallen considerably, particularly compared to the spring and early summer of 2024. Overall, the national average cost for a gallon of regular gas is the lowest since May 2021, when the average price was $2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration.
