Former GOP congressman David Jolly switches to Democrat ahead of expected Florida governor bid


Former Republican congressman David Jolly registered as a Democrat ahead of an anticipated bid for Florida governor. 

On Thursday, Jolly launched a political committee expected to boost his anticipated gubernatorial bid.

Jolly, who left the Republican Party to become an independent in 2018, announced on the new Florida 2026 PAC website that he has fully completed his party swap and is now a registered Democrat.

“Known for his fierce independent streak and bipartisan approach, Jolly was first elected in a nationally watched special election in Florida, a Republican winning a Democratic-leaning district,” says the website. “Jolly left the Republican Party shortly after leaving Congress and today is a registered Democrat.”
