Former Congressman Who Once Proposed Abolishing IRS Confirmed To Head Agency


The Senate confirmed former Congressman Billy Long as the next IRS Commissioner.

Long served as the U.S. representative for Missouri’s 7th congressional district from 2011 to 2023.

He once sponsored legislation to abolish the IRS.

Long will take over an IRS undergoing massive change, including layoffs and voluntary retirements of tens of thousands of workers and accusations that then-Trump adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency mishandled sensitive taxpayer data.
