Former baseball coach charged with sexually assaulting Georgia student


A former baseball coach and teacher at a Georgia high school has been charged with sexually assaulting a student – and additional charges are expected, authorities said.

David Lamberth, a 42-year-old head coach who also taught special education at Crisp County High School in Cordele, was arrested Thursday on one count of sexual assault, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Local authorities asked the agency in late October to look into allegations that Lamberth was having sex with students at the school, GBI officials said.

Investigators later found evidence indicating Lamberth “had sexual contact” with a student in Dooly County in 2016 whom he had “supervisory or disciplinary authority” over, according to an arrest warrant obtained by WALB.
