Ford and Mondale are gone but their eulogies for Carter are read


A eulogy written by former President Gerald Ford was shared at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral — even though Ford has been dead for nearly 20 years.

Despite Ford losing the White House to Carter in 1976, the two built a strong relationship. Ford’s son Steven Ford read the eulogy left behind after his father’s death in 2006.

Gerald Ford won’t be the only person speaking beyond the grave. Carter’s vice president, Walter Mondale, also had a eulogy he wrote for Carter read by his son, Ted Mondale. Walter Mondale died in 2021 at the age of 93. He was born four years after Carter.
