Florida man arrested for stealing ventilators for El Salvador COVID patients


A Florida man hiding out in Texas has finally been arrested for stealing hundreds of ventilators on their way to help critically ill COVID-19 patients in El Salvador last August.

Miami men Yoelvis Denis Hernandez and his co-conspirator Luis Urra-Montero stole a tractor trailer loaded with 192 government-owned ventilators worth about $3 million in August, according to the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida.

While Urra-Montera was found and arrested last September, Hernandez was still on the lam for the theft.

Hernandez and Montero stole the ventilator-filled truck from a lot where the driver had left it overnight while it was on its way to the Miami International Airport, according to Local News 10. Fortunately, most of the ventilators were later found.

This wasn’t the duo’s first time at the truck-stealing rodeo – the Naples Daily News reported Hernandez and Urra-Montero had been arrested in 2019 in Collier County after stealing a semi-cab and trailer from Miami, and that
