Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday that it’s important for tackling the pandemic for the White House’s COVID-19 task force to begin working with President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team.
“Of course, it would be better if we could start working with them,” Fauci told CNN anchor Jake Tapper on “State of the Union.”
The Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases said that the transition process was “really important in a smooth handing over of the information.”
“It’s almost like passing the baton in the race. You don’t want to stop and then give it to somebody — you want to essentially keep going,” Fauci said.
Fauci also noted that President Trump hasn’t attended any of the task force’s meetings for several months.
“It was months ago, but when we have our task force meeting it’s run by Vice President Pence, and the vice president then translates that to the president himself,” Fauci said.
