A post shared on Facebook claims the Nigerian government is donating $600 million to Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign.
There is no evidence that the Nigerian government has donated money to the Biden campaign. Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules prohibit U.S. political candidates from accepting donations from foreign nationals and governments.
The lengthy post alleges the Nigerian government will donate to Biden as “pay back” to President Donald Trump for purportedly supporting the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a Nigerian separatist group. The post is credited to “online reporters.”
“The nigeria minister of information and culture has stated that the presidency will support Democratic candidate Joe Biden with $600m as a pay back to Trump who supported terrorists in Nigeria,” the post reads, in part. It goes on to state, “We are going to show Donald Trump that nigeria is a country he can’t mess up with unlike how he did to Iran.”
