During the vice presidential debate on Wednesday between Senator Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence, Harris claimed that Abraham Lincoln declined to fill a Supreme Court seat during an election year because it was too close to the election.

This claim by Harris is FALSE.

The Senate was actually out of session at the time and Lincoln filled the seat in a single day once the Senate was back.
