Experts warn against privatizing the TSA as GOP senators make the push

Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) have introduced the Abolish the TSA Act, which would eliminate the Transportation Security Administration and privatize airport security by 2028.

Experts, however, warn that privatizing the TSA and bringing the United States back to security standards that were in place before the 9/11 terrorist attacks would not result in efficiency as the senators hope.

“There’s a reason we haven’t had a major attack on our aviation system since 9/11. It’s because of the TSA, DHS, DOD, the FBI, and other agencies and actions we’ve taken to prevent it from happening,” Jeff Price, a professor of aviation management at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, told the Washington Examiner.
