As President Trump’s days in office come to a close, more Republicans have begun announcing support for his impeachment.
GOP Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler of Washington announced on Tuesday night that she will vote to impeach the president, making her the fifth lawmaker to support the move.
“I understand the argument that the best course is not to further inflame the country or alienate Republican voters,” she said in a statement posted to Twitter. “But I am a Republican voter. I believe in our Constitution, individual liberty, free markets, charity, life, justice, peace and this exceptional county. I see that my own party will be best served when those among us choose truth.”
Beutler’s announcement comes soon after that of four other Republicans, including Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan. Earlier on Tuesday, Upton signed on to a Republican-led initiative to censure Trump but later released a statement saying he will now vote to impeach.
