On Wednesday while speaking on Fox News, Dr. Anthony Fauci defended President Donald Trump against recent claims made by journalist Bob Woodward who said that the President purposely downplayed the coronavirus.
According to Woodward, President Trump reportedly said he “wanted to always play it [the pandemic] down. I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”
During a press conference, the President defended his comment, stating that he was just referring to how he handled the pandemic, stating that he didn’t want to cause a wild panic.
“The fact is, I’m a cheerleader for this country,” President Trump said. “I love our country, and I don’t want people to be frightened.”
“We don’t want to instill panic,” the president continued. “We don’t want to jump up and down and start shouting that we have a problem that is a tremendous problem.”
