Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the GOP will support Donald Trump as the party’s nominee even if he’s “convicted of a crime.”
“If you end up having Donald Trump as your nominee and if he’s convicted of a crime, do you believe that he would be the appropriate nominee for the Republican Party?” CNN’s Dana Bash asked.
“Whoever the voters choose is the appropriate nominee,” McDaniel replied.
“Even if he’s a convicted criminal?” Bash questioned.
“I know this is newsworthy, but as party chair, I’m going to support who the voters choose. And yes, if they choose Donald Trump,” McDaniel explained.
