Dogs and cats surrendered to Florida animal shelters after owners nabbed by ICE


Animal shelters in various parts of Florida are seeing more pets being surrendered in recent weeks following their owners’ being arrested in the Trump administration’s deportation operation.

Three counties in Florida have posted on social media or spoken with local media about household pets brought to their doors because federal immigration authorities detained the owner and may be deported from the United States.

The Humane Society of Broward County, Florida, has seen a handful of animals surrendered for that reason over the past month, spokeswoman Cherie Wachter told the Miami New Times.

In Osceola County near Orlando, the county shelter said a dozen dogs had been turned over after the owners were arrested for their lack of legal immigration status, according to WFTV.
