A Denver TV station says it didn’t know a security guard hired to protect its news crew during a right-wing demonstration over the weekend had a gun — until he killed a US Navy veteran.
In a statement appended to a story Tuesday, 9News-TV said “none of 9News’ crew accompanied by Mr. (Matthew) Dolloff on Saturday were aware he was armed.”
“As stated yesterday, 9News does not contract directly with individual security personnel,” the statement said. “9News contracted with Pinkerton and had directed that security guards accompanying our personnel not be armed.”
Officials at 9News said earlier this week that they hired Dolloff, 30, through the famed detective agency, a practice it had engaged in for months to protect its crews while covering Black Lives Matter protests and related rallies.
Pinkerton said in a statement Monday that Dolloff was not employed by the firm but by a subcontractor.
