Democrats broaden targets in Virginia as matchup for governor is set


The marquee matchup in Virginia’s 2025 elections has been set, and Democrats are unveiling their blueprint as they seek sweeping wins in the Old Dominion.

In November, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R-VA) and former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger will face off to succeed term-limited Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA). Other elections will also be held to determine the lieutenant governor, attorney general, and control of the House of Delegates.

Republicans are hoping to hold all three statewide offices and flip the state House, while Democrats are eyeing full control of Richmond. On Monday, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee issued a memorandum outlining its game plan for the critical Virginia elections at the end of the year.
