Washington D.C might not become a state after all.
Earlier in the month, the House passed a bill that would make D.C. a state but the chances of it passing the Senate just got slimmer after Democrat Senator of West Virginia Joe Manchin said he opposes the new bill that would grant D.C. statehood.
Manchin believes D.C. shouldn’t gain statehood by a single act of Congress but rather statehood should be granted by a constitutional amendment.
Right now the house is split 50-50 so Manchin choosing to vote against D.C.’s statehood will help Republicans big time.
