This couple has a heart of gold.
New homeowners James and Clarrisa Munford stumbled upon $25,000 of antique gold and silver coins after moving into their South Carolina abode — and returned the treasure trove to the previous owner.
“I was just thinking, you know, they’re not mine,” James, who’d texted pictures of the coins to the seller, told CNN. “They’re probably a family heirloom, so I’m gonna go ahead and make sure he gets them back.”
James discovered the collection hidden in built-in drawers in his closet in October, after he and his wife closed on the home in Columbia.
Two cases contained 46 gold Liberty $5 coins and 18 Morgan silver dollars made in the 1800s.
“They looked real old, like they were really worth a lot of money,” James said.
The previous homeowner, who didn’t want to be named, said the coins were worth about $25,000.
