A Virginia college dean who denounced supporters of President-elect Joe Biden as “ignorant, anti-American and anti-Christian” has resigned, university officials said.
Virginia Wesleyan University said in a brief statement Monday that Paul Ewell, whose post-election Facebook message caught the attention of President Trump, had stepped down from his role following the politically charged remarks.
“Last week, Dr. Paul Ewell resigned as dean of Virginia Wesleyan University Global Campus,” university officials said. “Today, the university accepted his resignation as professor of management, business and economics.”
Ewell’s post on his private Facebook page urged Biden supporters and Democrats to “unfriend” him, the Virginian-Pilot reported.
“If you were ignorant, anti-American and anti-Christian enough to vote for Biden, I really don’t want to be your social friend on social media,” Ewell wrote. “I wouldn’t hang out with you in real life, I don’t want to hang out with you virtually either. You have corrupted the election. You have corrupted our country.”
