The College Board has reportedly backed down after Florida rejected a High School advanced placement (AP) African American Studies course.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis defended the Florida Department of Education’s (FDOE) rejection on Monday, because its content contained sections on intersectionality, abolishing prisons, and “queer theory.”
He also accused the AP content of being more geared towards “indoctrination” rather than “education.” An upwards battle DeSantis has been ruthlessly fighting against in Florida over the past few years.
Explaining the woke content included in the rejected course, DeSantis said “in the state of Florida, education standards … require teaching black history — all the important things, that’s part of our core curriculum.”
“The issue is we have guideline[s] and standards in Florida,” he added.
