The total number of coronavirus deaths in the US could hit a staggering 182,000 people by late August, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicted in a report.
The grim forecast — which comes as the nation’s death toll soared to more than 155,000 Friday — notes there will be a spike of between 5,000 and 11,000 new deaths during the week of Aug. 15-22, according to Yahoo.com, which obtained the CDC’s weekly projection model.
The CDC’s prediction flies in the face of President Trump’s continued assertion that the virus threat will soon end — and threatens to undermine his claim that the US has “done much better than most” countries on mortality rates, according to the outlet.
