In the opening weeks of 2022, a California state senator took to the site then known as Twitter to promote his bill that would allow children from the age of 12 and up to get mRNA injections without parental knowledge or consent. Sen. Scott Wiener reassured parents that the bill didn’t propose an ideological departure, being entirely consistent with the state’s well-established progressive values.
“California law already allows 12-17 year olds to access various forms of healthcare without parental consent, eg: HPV & hep B vaccines, abortion care, birth control, mental healthcare, domestic violence-related care,” Wiener wrote. “SB 866 builds on this existing law to expand vaccine access.”
