Anyone who submitted $4,194 or 7,000 signatures, along with five years of tax returns to the state of California, can enter the wide-open governor’s recall election against Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sept. 14.
Some of the candidates’ professions in this election include puppeteer, clergy, geologist, CPA, and homicide detective.
Anything is possible, as Californians have given two famous faces the job. The last one, Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2003, was the only time that a gubernatorial recall was successful despite 55 attempts.
The filing deadline ended at 5 p.m. Friday, and several high-profile Republicans have entered the race, while the field of Democrats, Green Party members, and Libertarians are not well known. A complete list on the California secretary of state’s website will be available next week.
