Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a huge shift, moving the company away from extreme censorship. On Tuesday, Zuckerberg revealed Meta’s ‘fact checking’ program will be replaced with the “community notes” system.
Following in Elon Musk’s footsteps to bring back free speech on social media platforms, the change will affect Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. “We’re gonna get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,” Zuckerberg said in a five-minute video.
“More specifically, here’s what we’re going to do. First, we’re going to get rid of fact checkers and replace them with Community Notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.”
Zuckerberg noted moderation policies have “gone too far,” and encourage discourse around divisive topics
